Mental Wellness
Dare I say, we are in the midst of a mental health epidemic? It would seem that depression, loneliness and anxiety are at crisis levels. I speak as someone with a background in mental illness: we all have a story to share. And sharing that story makes things better. It lightens the load. Mental illness is a burden, whether you suffer it personally or you support someone else through their battle.
It is my mission to help people to share their stories so we can all feel a little less alone. So we can all realize there are others out there with similar struggles to our own. So we can learn from each other, and use that experience to ease our pain.
To that end I'm doing a series of short videos on a range of topics, including suicide, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, and more. My long term goal is to turn those videos into a series of documentaries. Because people are suffering and our systems are overloaded. We need to help any and every way we can.
This project began with my need to understand my own circumstances. I was raised by my mother. To say she was highly abusive would be a massive understatement. At the time, I felt she was doing her best to destroy me. So how can someone in my position forgive their abusive parent, when later in life we begin to understand the devastating mental condition that is schizophrenia?
